As I sit here writing this week's blog, I'm outside drinking iced coffee on a 99 degree day, in the middle of May.  This makes me realize that summer is coming faster than I thought, which means that I need to get back in shape for all the outdoor activities (plus the shorts and tank tops).  So it's a really good thing that we are detoxing once a week in May.  This weekend, me and mom had our lunch detox together while we hosted a potluck.  But in the morning, I had a big glass of juice (and I was able to save the pulp to make banana bread muffins!).  For lunch, I just threw a lot of ingredients together and they were met with the approval of several of our guests.  This was the salad that we demonstrated in our video this week.  For supper, I made a big ol' chocolate smoothie.  To be honest, I have no idea if it's detoxing in the least, but it sure is good.  

Here is the recipe:  

  • 1 cup non-dairy milk (I make hemp)
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons cacao or cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (or other nut oil that doesn't have a lot of taste)
  • 1 frozen banana

Blend all ingredients except frozen bananas together.  After everything is incorporated, add the frozen banana.  I find that this helps keep the coconut oil from solidifying.  If you want the smoothie thicker, just decrease the amount of milk used.  
I've been eating the leftovers of the detox salad for the last two days and it tastes great still.  I don't have any idea what kind of detox recipe is coming next, but it's been pretty fun coming up with some recipes lately.
